A new project recently received funding through the Public Health Agency of Canada’s investment, “Supporting the Health of Victims of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse through Community Programs”.
The Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC) will engage trans*, gender diverse and two spirit individuals in the greater Toronto area who have experienced intimate partner violence, to develop resources and improve supports for survivors. This project aims to increase understanding of how intimate partner violence is experienced by trans*, gender diverse and two spirit people, build peer intervention approaches, and develop tools and training to equip health and social service providers to provide effective, equitable care and support. (Note: Trans* is an inclusive term that refers to individuals who identify as transsexual, transitioned, transgender, trans men (FTM), trans women (MTF), genderqueer, gender-fluid, gender nonconforming, third gender, non-binary and intersex.)
Welcome Wendy Komiotis, Marion Newrick, Ilene Hyman, and Tatiana Ferguson to the Trauma- and Violence-Informed Health Promotion Community of Practice (CoP)
